Two Katyusha missiles strike Iraqi airbase

(MENAFN) Two Katyusha rockets struck the vicinity of an airbase in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk late Monday, an Iraqi news organization reported, citing a senior security source.

According to the source, one of the rockets landed between the first and second runways of the Kirkuk airbase, while the second hit a nearby residential house. Fortunately, no casualties or material damage were reported as a result of the attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

The Kirkuk airbase has been targeted multiple times in the past, often amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing efforts by Iraqi security forces to combat remnants of the Islamic State (IS) and other militant groups.
